Walgreens 8/30

Bad photo--Sorry! Crazy first day of school. I just wanted to do a quick post of what I'm buying this week. One store didn't have any of the Breathe Right 10 count. One store only had the menthol (size sm/med) Last store had both. Two stores had just clear lip gloss, one store had pink, peach, and clear. Why can't they all just be stocked??? Anyway, I love rolling the lip gloss and tampons back and forth with the Breathe Right. Fun to stock up on new stuff. So here's the deals:

Transaction #1
Breathe Right Menthol 10 count $4.00
Carmex Pink $2
used
$5 RR
OOP $1 + tax

Transaction #2
W Tampons 8 ct $1.99 (why can't they just make it $2?)
Candy $ .45 (already eaten by 3 yr. old)
used
$2 RR Carmex
OOP $.44 + tax
got $2 RR

Transaction #3
Carmex Clear $2
Tampons $1.99
W Plastic Spoons $ .99
used
In ad Coupon Plastic Cutlery $.50
$4 RR Breathe Right
OOP $.49 + tax
got $2 RR, $2 RR

Transaction #4
Breathe Right $4
W Plastic Spoons $.99
used
In ad IVC W Cutlery $ .50
$2 RR Carmex, $2 RR Tampons
OOP $.50 + tax

There are cheaper fillers like the 2 pocket folders, but I like to buy things I actually need for fillers and were pretty stocked on folders.

CVS 8/28/10

So, I haven't been shopping CVS much only because they haven't had many deals that I've been interested in, but I did shop there on Saturday. One deal is good this week (they turn on their deals on Saturday night at my closest store). I bought

(4) 4oz. bottles of Emerald Nuts on sale for $1ea. (I'm not sure if this was a weekly sale, so they may still be $1)
used (4) $1/1 Emerald Nut Coupons RP 8/15/10 (I got these while I was in California)

Phillips Ear Phones $6.99 get $7 EB

I like shopping at CVS, it's so much easier than Walgreens.

Canning Peaches--SO FUN!

Yay, I accomplished my first water bath canning project!! It was super duper easy, but definitely more time consuming than canning meat (I can't wait to can more meat!) I really enjoyed it. All my jars sealed, they didn't all look lovely, but I'm really not a perfectionist, as long as they taste good I'll be happy. I did have one major catastrophe--I had bought 2 boxes of peaches from the grocery store and they were nice and cold when I bought them. So, a few days later when they were ripened and ready to can, I just opened the top box and got busy. I thought about the bottom box maybe being too warm especially since my kitchen was about 180 degrees while I was canning the first batch, but I didn't open the box. Well, when I opened the box the next day, they were all moldy--soooo sad! Live and learn, I guess. I can't wait to can something else, it is so fun. If only my sister had been here for some great conversation. Maybe next year we'll can fruit together! So, if you've never canned, don't be afraid just follow the directions to the T and it's a piece of cake!

I had 3 books on canning, I know 1 would have been sufficient! But the best tip I got from one of the books was to sterilize your jars in your canner and just take them out one at a time when you need them. Then as soon as you finish a jar just put it back in the canner. That way you don't have to worry about fruit fresh to keep your fruit from browning. It's definitely something that you figure out what works best for you as you go. I changed a few things as I went until I got into a good rhythm.

Happy Canning!!!

$10 off $10 at JCPenney PLUS Free shipping on Shoes

Sorry I'm a little late posting this deal but it's a good one. JCPenney has free shipping on shoes through 9/6, and there is a coupon code TEN2YOU that will take $10 off any order of $10 or more. So, get on over to JCPenney.com and click on shoes. I always go right to the clearance section and see if you can find something you like. Then enter code TEN2YOU and checkout. They didn't have much in the way of kids shoes or mens shoes on clearance, but there were lots of ladies shoes in the clearance section.

Don't forget to shop through e-bates for 3% cashback.

Smith's ad Misprint

In case you haven't already heard, the $.48 cent cereal int the Smiths ad for this week was a misprint. I suspected as much when I saw it yesterday, so I thought I'd just wait it out until someone tried it this morning and sure enough, they had already caught the error.

Now, this brings up an interesting dilemma. I never imagined that there would be so many times as a couponer that I would have to ask myself if doing a deal or using a coupon was really being honest. This is one of those times. I try very hard not to be judgmental of others and their choices, but since this is my blog, I will give you my opinion. Obviously you can take or leave it. If I have any doubts, I usually just skip the deal, another deal will always be right around the corner. Also, I don't ever want to do anything that would give the stores any ammo to use against couponers. That's how we lose credibility and then the stores limit coupons or give us trouble about honest coupon usuage. Back to the Smiths deal, obviously Smiths is not honoring the ad, which I think is totally fine. We all make mistakes and this was a simple mistake. Now we could all go in a throw a fit about it being an advertised deal, and Nevada statues require that they honor it, etc, etc., but that would only hurt our reputation and make them not want to deal with us. My goal is to have great relationships with my stores and never have them grumble when they see me walk through their doors. Some deal seekers have decided to take the ad to Walmart and have them price match the Smiths ad; In my opinion this is dishonest. The ad was a misprint and if Smiths is not going to honor it, I think it's dishonest to ask Walmart to honor it.

Okay, that's it. Use your best judgment and remember we want to keep good relationships with our stores and have them know that we are honest couponers who would never try and take advantage of a silly little misprint!

MDA Coupon Booklet at Vons and update on Buy 4 Save $4

I found these coupons at Safeway in California, so I'm not sure if Vons has them yet, but keep checking. What a blast shopping at a coupon friendly Safeway store! The checker was cheering me on as my total went down. It was soooo great to use 5 yes 5 of the same coupon! Anyway, I'll enjoy it while I can and then back to Vons--sad!
An update on the buy 4 save $4, you DO NOT need to buy in increments of 4 to get the $4 off. You must buy at least 4 but after the initial 4 the sale price will come off. I bought 4 fruit snacks and 1 nut cluster and got the $1 (buy 4 save $4) came off all 5 items. Also, the nut clusters DO qualify for the Nature Valley Cat. I didn't do this one because I was testing the waters to see if my eq's would come off at a Safeway store with my Vons card.

Vons Buy 4 Save $4 or Albertsons buy 10 save $5

Don't miss the buy 4 Save $4 promo at Vons this week. I know it's difficult to shop Vons with coupons, but this one should be okay. Make sure you load all the e-coupons from cellfire and shortcuts, and remember you can use paper coupons along with the e-coupons. KCL has done a bunch of match-ups which you can see here. A few more Double Ideas for Albertsons

Sorry, to my friend Jeannie for the misinformation about the Olive Oil! The Filippo Berio Olive Oil is $3.99 at Albertsons, you should be able to print a $1/1 coupon here. With Doubles that's $1.99 for Olive Oil which is a decent price for Olive Oil, especially if you have overage!

Here's the link for the $1/1 Peppridge farms Cookies. $1.99 at Albies = free with doubler.

Oh, and don't forget the $.75/1 Mission Tortilla coupon in last Sunday's inserts. 10 count flour tortillas are $1.49 FREE TORTILLAS!

I'm such a ding-dong I missed the fact that the Ritz Chips are also part of the buy 10 save $5 promo--so if you have the $1 coupons from Vons you could throw in a few bags of those along with some planters trail mix and 5 Kraft Deli Deluxe (remember you have to buy 5 Kraft items if you want the $5 catalina) for that super deal! These double coupons are making my head spin!

Kraft Promo Vons (Safeway) and Albertsons

I noticed this deal when I was shopping yesterday and was really bummed that my Vons will only let us use 2 like coupons, but some of you with coupon friendly stores may be able to do this at Safeway. The same Kraft promo that I talked about last week at Smiths is also going on at Albertsons and Safeway affiliates. The promo is buy 5 Kraft cheese products (8oz or larger) and get a $5 OYNO catalina coupon. So here's the deal at Safeway (Vons)

Buy 5 Deli Deluxe $2.99 ea
-$5 (part of the buy 5 save 5 promo)
use (5) $1/1 Deli Deluxe coupons
OOP $4.95
get a $5 OYNO Cat.

You can only print 2 coupons per computer, so you'll need 3 computers, or just use 4 coupons, or substitute another Kraft cheese product for your 5th item. Just make sure you have 5 Kraft cheese items over 8oz. ea.

You can also do this deal at Albertsons as part of the buy 10 save $5 promo. you'll just have to find more items. KCL has a good scenarion here. If you use 3 of your twice the value coupons the deal will be even sweeter!

Print and Save Dail Nutriskin

Just a heads up for next week, you may want to print this coupon before it's gone. Next week Dial Nutriskin Body Wash will be $3.99 get a $3 RR at Walgreens.

Ball/Kerr Canning Product Coupon

**UPDATE at Albies you can get a free canning funnel with this coupon they're priced at $1.69 so a little overage too. There are also pickling spices for just over $2 and a few other goodies that would be super cheap with doubles. If you need jars take this coupon to Walmart because they have reduced the price for jars not much but at least $1 if I remember correctly the last price I paid. Walmart is by far the cheapest for canning jars here in my neck of the woods.
This coupon will certainly come in handy $1/1 Ball or Kerr Canning Product. You could certainly use this at Albertsons with a doubler, but depending on what you want to buy, it may still be cheaper at Walmart. Either way, it's a great printable coupon if you didn't get it in the 8/1 Red Plum

Do you make your own Bread?

Do you make your own bread? Well, if you don't it's time to start. Now, I am super lazy when it comes to cooking, and the thought of mixing, kneading, waiting, kneading, raising, etc. etc. etc. !! Makes me totally unmotivated! BUT I have an old dinosaur breadmaker that belonged to my grandmother who never used it because she had no use for a breadmaker...she was the breadmaker! Anyway, it's so old that I couldn't even find a users manual online. But I decided to wing it, now usually when I wing it in the kitchen it turns into a disaster, but I figured I'd just follow a bread recipe, throw everything in that baby and see what happened. The good news is that it was a great success! YAY success in the kitchen with almost no work!! So, if you're kitchen lazy like me but want homemade bread either go searching through your grandmothers pantry for a breadmaker she doesn't use OR go the the DI and see what you can dig up. Oh sure I'd love to have the fancy model with the pizza dough setting and a paddle that could whip up a BIG loaf of bread but for Free, my little dinosaur is doing a fabulous job, and I haven't bought bread for about 1 year. AND we're eating yummy whole wheat bread--remember fresh ground wheat flour is about 1000 times better than store bought wheat flour. See my post here about the best thing I ever bought----my wheat grinder--L-O-V-E it!!

Here's my favorite recipe:
I got the original recipe from here (everydayfoodstorage.com), but I have modified it a bit:

1 1/4 C Warm Water
1 T butter
1/4 C brown sugar or honey
1t salt
2 3/4 C whole wheat flour
1/4 C Wheat Gluten (or you can use 1/2 wheat 1/2 white flour omit the gluten and increase flour to 3 cups)
2T Powdered Milk
1/4 C potato flakes
3/4 T yeast (original recipe called for 1T but it was too much and the bread tasted like yeast)

Just throw everything in the breadmaker in the order listed, set you breadmaker on the dough setting. When it beeps (don't forget that you have it in the machine--yes I have done this) take it out and shape it to fit in your bread pan, let it rise for 30 min. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. My oven cooks hot so I only bake mine for 25 minutes.

If you go to the Everyday Food Storage site, she's got tons of great recipes, videos, and food storage tips.
