Why you need to buy a FoodSaver!

Here's why I want you to grab that FoodSaver for $24.99 from my last post.

See this little beauty?

It's one of my all time favorite kitchen gadgets because it means that I can have chocolate in my food storage--yay!
But here's the problem, Foodsaver no longer manufactures the hand held vacuum sealer. So, the next option, which is a perfectly good option is the actual Big Foodsaver which comes with a little hose and does the exact same thing that my little vacuum sealer does. The problem is the high price (unless you can find one on e-bay or at the DI.)

You will need to purchase this little attachment
which runs about $6 and it comes in small mouth or wide mouth jar sizes.

This allows you to store (in mason jars) all kinds of great things that would normally go bad very quickly. Chocolate for example will last for years when vaccuum sealed. I've stored raisins and crackers and nuts. After you opon the jar, you can just reseal it with the same lid. You can also use it for refrigerated or frozen foods, but make sure you store those items in the refrigerator or freezer and NOT on your shelf and you will extend their life by at least double. This is not canning or pressure canning! You also, have to be super careful with any powdered items because they can really mess up your system, but if you want to vacuum seal sugar or cake mix, just be sure to put it in a plastic bag first and then vacuum seal it in the jar some people even put a coffee filter on top to be safe. I use mine for storing cheese, like parmesan which is soooo expensive but I can't use the big block fast enough. The possibilities are endless, but I LOVE mine!

Flu Shots $10 at Smith's

I completely forgot to post this on Saturday so hopefully you can still get this deal. I went to Smiths to get a flu shot because I had seen them advertised for $19, but when I got there the pharmacist told me that they had just lowered the price to $10. I don't know if it's just this store (Durango and Elkhorn for those in my neck of the woods) or if it's all stores. So, if you need a flu shot and have a Smiths or maybe any Kroger affiliate give the pharmacy a call and find out how much their flu shots cost. It only took maybe 10 minutes, and the best time to get your flu shot is November or December because flu season hits hardest from Nov.-February. AND flu shots are usually only effective for about 4 months---well that's what I heard anyway--don't quote me because I read it online, but I'm covered!

Latest Walgreens Update

Okay, so it appears that after the mess that Walgreens created on Saturday has finally been resolved. They have their computers now programmed properly so that Super Jingle Cash prints if you hit $25, $50, $75 or $100 AFTER Walgreens coupons and discounts but BEFORE Manufacturer coupons. Also, if you want to use your SJC from last week to get more SJC this week, you need to know that the SJC is a Walgreens coupon while your regular Jingle Cash (RR) are Manufacturer coupons. So if I buy $25 worth of stuff after in ad coupons and want to use $5 SJC, I will need to add $5 more stuff to get another $5 SJC, however if I have $25 worth of stuff and I just want to use regular JC(RR) I will still get the $5 SJC. Seems a little confusing but if you just remember that SJC is Walgreens coupon and JC is Manu. coupon you'll be fine. Also, it appears that the nail polish is a monthly deal, so you can get more nail polish--yay!

I've done several transactions at Walgreen's this week, but rather than give you all the crazy details, I thought I'd just give you what I think are the best deals. Also for every $25 you spend you get a $5 coupon that can be used next week. The super good news is that the $25 is calculated BEFORE coupons (Walgreens and Manufacturer)! So, as long as your total is $25 before you turn over any coupons you'll get $5. Okay, so my favorite deals are

I did hear that at the beginning of the week there was a glitch with the money holder cards, so I haven't tried those. If you receive any magazines, I did find one in my December issue of Redbook. This is an awesome coupon because it's $5 off with no minimum purchase. Last year they had some cheap rolls of wrapping paper that I purchased and remember you can use them on anything, it doesn't have to be used on Christmas merchandise.

Smtihs Buy 4 Save $4

Here's a little goody from Smith's this week. They're having a buy 4 get $4 off Sale which makes each item $1.49. The ad lists Pillsbury Pie Crusts, Pillsbury Ready to Bake cookies, Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls and Grands biscutis, and select GM Cereals (Cheerios are pictured.) So, I made a quick trip this morning and I found pink peelie stickers on the pie crusts for $1/2 just be sure to read the peelies because some are for the pie crusts and some are for other pillsbury items, there were also blinkie machines with $1.25 off 2 Pillsbury Ready to Bake Cookie coupons. The cereals that were marked at my store were the Yellow Cheerios, Chocolate Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cookies Crisp. They're may have been more, but those were for sure marked in my store. I forgot to ask if you could do more than one set of 4/transaction. I had to go to 2 stores because one was out of the pie crusts. (Elkhorn/Durango store was fully stocked this morning). There's also a Catalina Deal with the Pillsbury items Buy 4 get $1 OYNO cat. CVS Paid Me to Fill my Perscription!

It's true, they really did pay me to fill my prescription! You have probably received either through e-mail or at the register a coupon for a $25 gift card for new or transferred prescription--don't throw them away!! I've received them at Walgreens, all of the Grocery Stores and just at the right time from the CVS coupon machine. They usually have long expirations so just stash them away when you recieve them. I just had a simple one time prescription from my doctor and happened to print the coupon the same day, so I just took my little coupon with me to the pharmacist, they filled my prescription, which my insurance paid and I left with a $25 gift card--SWEET!

Here's another good coupon $1/1 Muir Glen Product. I use the Muir Glen coupons to buy the Fire Roasted Tomatoes, they're about $1.49 at Walmart and they are AWESOME for Chili, Pasta Sauce, etc. I LOVE the Fire Roasted tomatoes--give 'em a try! If you're like me and don't like chunks of cooked tomato, just throw them in your blender before you add them to your recipe. You can frequently find the $.75/1 Muir Glen coupons at the Eat Better America and Betty Crocker Websites.

Safeway and affiliates Coupon Book

If you live near a Safeway affiliate store (Vons here). You'll want to keep your eyes peeled for this coupon book. There are some GREAT coupons. I referenced the Swanson's broth coupon that I used at Smiths. I just saw Swanson's broth at Walmart for $.50 so this coupon you will be able to use almost anywhere and get a great deal.

I found these in the freezer section, dairy section, and baking aisle.

Smiths trip 11/5

I'm super excited about the latest buy 10 save $5 mega event at Smiths. Some GREAT deals. I got all of this for $5.00. I won't give you all the details, just the coupons I used. I did use a $3 catalina coupon that I had as well as a $7 coupon oyno coupon that I got from Smiths in the gold envelope they send out quarterly. If you are someone who uses your shopping card without your address, you're missing out on some great deals. So, here are the coupons I used:

Remember on the items that will cause your transaction to go negative give the manu. coupon first and then the in ad coupon. According to Walgreens coupon policy they have to adjust the coupon down if the coupon is over the amount, so if you get a cashier who insists on scanning the ad coupon first, they will have to adjust the price or the coupon so your balance doesn't go negative. You may want to have the Walgreens coupon policy in your purse!

Click here to print your 30% off coupon for Old Navy. Valid 11/11-11/18. I always use these coupons on clearance items. I wonder if we'll get any coupons before Thanksgiving. **Update! We're you wondering where I found the in ad coupon for the tumblers?? Well after it didn't scan correctly on 2 different trips and the very nice cashiers price adjusted for me, I figured out that I had the ad from the previous week !!!

OOP should have been just under $1 plus tax, but the Pepcid rang up $1 less than it was marked. In the end I ended up paying just sales tax!

The pepcid was not on sale and there were no RR with it, but we needed it. Whenever I need something and I don't know if there's a coupon, I go here (a full cup) and search in their coupon database. Today I was in luck because there was a $3 coupon for the pepcid and I had an $8 RR from last week so the RR paid for something I needed to buy anyway.

Also a note on the Purex coupons, these were on sale at CVS last week b1g1 free $7.99 with 2 $3 coupons the total was $1.99 OOP for 2. I thought this was a great deal, but I did not have the coupons. In this case, I decided that it would be worthwhile to actually purchase the coupons online. So, I paid $5.80 for 20 coupons and with those 20 coupons, I saved $60. Sometimes it does pay to purchase the coupons online. I also had EB to spend at CVS so they ended up being almost free! I had also ordered a couple of the whole inserts online and forgot that those had the Purex coupons too, so thankfully Walgreens was having a similar sale this week!

This way you can buy the higher quality for 50% off. (I have read reports that there are some good deals on kids jammies at Sears)
